AACS Alumni Association
Nominating & Selection Policy
for the
AACS "Hall of Honor"
(Revised) Dec 9, 2007
I. Purpose: The
Board of Directors has established an AACS Alumni Association "Hall of Honor" to
provide a venue in which AACS Alumni Members may be recognized by their peers for
distinguishing themselves in the Air Force, Civilian and/or in their local community. The
express purpose of this program is to recognize and hold in high esteem, those individuals
who have demonstrated extraordinary and inordinate service. To be eligible for nomination
to the AACS "Hall of Honor", individuals must have distinguished themselves in
their Air Force or civilian positions and/or in community endeavors by accomplishments
that were noteworthy and deserving of this high honor. Nomination to the AACS "Hall
of Honor" is open to ALL members of the AACS Alumni Association.
II. Criteria for Nomination: Any current member of the AACS Alumni Association, may
nominate another living or deceased member for induction into the AACS "Hall of
Honor". The following criteria should be used as the minimum criteria:
- Individuals have distinguished themselves in such a way as to
bring credit on themselves during their Air Force service, civilian careers and/or in
their local community.
- Accomplishments should be considered meaningful and worthy of
being nominated for the AACS "Hall of Honor".
III. Related Criteria Considerations: The members comprising the AACS Alumni Association cover the
period of 1938-to the current time and the nominations can include any current or deceased
member who meets the criteria in paragraph II, above. Nominations are limited to only
those individuals who were or are currently members of the AACS Alumni Association. There
are no special considerations based on rank or position and selection of individuals for
induction into the AACS "Hall of Honor" will be based solely on merit.
Individuals nominating other living members are encouraged
to coordinate with the individual being nominated to obtain specific information to
document accomplishments and achievements. Coordination with other members
who may be able to add to the documentation is also encouraged. Similar coordination is
also encouraged if the individual being nominated is deceased.
All members who have been selected and nominated by the
Board of Directors for induction into the Air Force Communications &
Information Hall of Fame, will automatically be inducted into the AACS "Hall of
Honor".
IV. Nominating Committee: The AACS Alumni members appointed to the Air Force Hall of
Fame Committee will also be responsible for the review and ranking of nominations for the
AACS "Hall of Honor". The Committee will:
- Review all nominations submitted for induction into the AACS
"Hall of Honor" and based on merit, select and rank not more than three (3)
nominations for submission to the Board of Directors.
- Include in the review of AACS "Hall of Honor"
nominations, all nominations that were submitted for consideration into the Air Force
Communications & Information Hall of Fame.
- The Chairperson will receive nominations from members , using
the format described below, not later than July 15th of each year (same submission date as
the Air Force Communications & Information Hall of Fame). The Chairperson of this
Committee will provide copies of the nominations to the other committee members for their
review and for the committee to reach a consensus on the merits of the nominations and the
rankings. The Chairperson will then submit the ranking list to all the members of the
Board of Directors, not later than August 1st, of each year.
V. Board of Directors Selection Process: The Board of Directors will review the nominations and ranking
list received from the Nominating Committee and will in telephone conversations and emails
discuss and make a final selection of one or more of the nominees submitted.
The Board of Directors will use the following general criteria
for the final selection of a nominee(s) for this award:
- Make selection(s) based solely on merit.
- The Board has the discretion changing the ranking order or not
making a selection, if in the Boards judgment, the accomplishments and/or
achievements do not meet the high standards considered for selection.
VI. Real or Perceived Conflicts of Interest: To ensure the total integrity of the nominating and selection process, no member
of the Nominating Committee or the Board of Directors submitting a nomination or being a
nominee can participate as a member of the Nominating Committe or vote as a member of the
Board of Directors.
VII. Announcement of Selection(s) to the AACS "Hall
of Honor": The Executive Director will announce the name(s)
of those members selected for this high honor at the Saturday night Convention
Banquet. All inductees will receive an individual trophy (normally an eagle) to
document these honors. The announcement of those selected will be published in the
November AACS Communicator.
VIII. Format for Submission of Nominees to the AACS
"Hall of Honor": The format
that has been developed for submission of nominees for the Air Force Communications &
Information Hall of Fame will be used for nominees to the AACS "Hall of Honor".
The title of the submission will reflect that the nomination is for the AACS "Hall of
Honor" and not the Air Force Communications & Information Hall of Fame.
The write up should not be more than 1pages and must contain
accomplishments and achievements that are noteworthy and be of such quality to allow for
comparisons with other nominations. It is the responsibility of the individual making the
nomination to obtain the specific information on accomplishments and achievements for
inclusion in the nomination. Coordination with the nominee is encourged
in order to fully document his/her accomplishments. The Nominating Committee
and the Board of Directors are prohibited from adding, deleting or modifying the submitted
nominations.
